In July 1979 the Basil
and Elise Goulandris Foundation inaugurated the Museum of Contemporary
Art in Hora, capital of Andros and birthplace of Basil P. Goulandris.
In the two wings of the Museum a part of the Foundation’s collection
is exhibited throughout most of the year. Each summer, since 1986,
the Foundation has been organising temporary exhibitions of distinguished
20th-century artists in the Museum of Contemporary Art on Andros.
MUSEUMS (general)
The Basil and Elise Goulandris Foundation has built up a significant
art collection of important 20th-century Greek and international
artists. This collection comprises the core of the Museum of Contemporary
Art on Andros. The increasing attendance of the Athenian public
and the inhabitants of Andros led to the Museum’s expansion to a
new wing, which was completed in 1986. Moreover, the Foundation
has made provisions for the construction, equipment and enrichment
of a new Museum of Contemporary Art in Athens.
